Hi everyone, my name is Kim Park, and I’m creating this fundraiser for my sister-in-law, the wife of my brother, Alex Park.

She is one of the kindest, most caring and selfless people I know. She has always been the type of person who puts others before herself and finds purpose in helping people. That spirit is reflected in the work she chose to dedicate herself to, teaching maths, science and STEAM subjects to children in under-resourced schools through a non-profit organisation.

She has spent so much of her life helping others.

Now, she is the one who needs help.

At the beginning of June, she went to the emergency room with unbearable abdominal pain. Doctors discovered a degenerating uterine fibroid that needed to be removed. She later travelled to Korea for surgery, and at first, we believed the procedure had been successful.

We thought the worst was behind us.

Unfortunately, after examining the tissue removed during surgery, doctors discovered an abnormality.

On 24 July, our family received the news that changed everything: she had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer called uterine sarcoma.

There are very few words that can describe what it feels like to hear that someone you love has cancer.

She is now undergoing further tests so doctors can determine the stage of the cancer and the best possible treatment plan. At this point, further surgery and chemotherapy are being strongly recommended.

Alongside the fear and uncertainty of the diagnosis, there is another enormous burden: the cost of treatment.

She does not have health insurance in Korea, and the expenses for hospital care, surgery, tests, medication and chemotherapy are expected to reach tens of thousands of dollars.

My brother and sister-in-law have never been comfortable asking others for help. They have been doing everything they can with the resources available to them, while her parents are also supporting her as much as possible.

But cancer is not something any family should have to face alone.

Every donation to this fundraiser will go towards her medical treatment, hospital expenses, tests, medication, chemotherapy and essential living costs while she is unable to work.

She has spent years giving her time, kindness and energy to others.

Now, our family is asking for the chance to give some of that kindness back to her.

More than anything, we want her to be able to focus on her health, her treatment and her recovery without the constant fear of how the next hospital bill will be paid.

We never imagined our family would find ourselves in this position.

But right now, pride does not matter.
